Who just opened, or is about to, in Texas
Every pin is a public record filed in the last few weeks: a new Texas sales tax permit from the Comptroller, a TABC liquor license application that is still pending (the bar or restaurant has not opened yet), or a newly issued liquor license. We pull them every morning, place them on the map and sort them into twelve categories, so you can see who is opening on your route before anyone knocks on their door.

Where the data comes from
Texas Comptroller Active Sales Tax Permit Holders and TABC Pending Original License Applications and License Information, all published on data.texas.gov. A permit is counted as a new opening only when the outlet's first sales date is no more than 90 days before the permit was issued; older outlets that simply re-permitted are left out. Temporary event permits are left out too. Addresses are placed with the U.S. Census geocoder; the few it cannot place sit at the center of their ZIP code.
